Dayseeker is an American post-hardcore band from Orange County, California, known for their emotionally charged music and introspective lyrics. Since their formation in 2012, the band has carved out a space in the alternative music scene by blending elements of metalcore, alternative rock, and ambient pop. Their sound is distinguished by soaring melodies, heartfelt vocal performances, and dynamic instrumentation that ranges from heavy breakdowns to ethereal soundscapes.

Fronted by Rory Rodriguez, whose hauntingly soulful vocals are a centerpiece of their music, Dayseeker’s lyrics often delve into deeply personal and relatable themes. These include mental health struggles, loss, addiction, love, and existential questioning. Their songs resonate with listeners because of their authenticity, as they frequently draw from real-life experiences. For example, “Sleeptalk” (2019), one of their most acclaimed albums, explores themes like heartbreak and family turmoil with raw vulnerability.

What sets Dayseeker apart is the sheer emotional intensity they pour into their music. Every note and lyric feels intentional, crafted to evoke a visceral response from the listener. Whether it’s the anguish in Rory’s voice, the atmospheric guitar lines, or the cathartic crescendos, the band’s music often feels like a therapeutic journey—both for the band and their fans.

Dayseeker’s commitment to honest storytelling and their ability to connect emotionally through their art make them a standout act in the modern rock and post-hardcore scenes. Their music is as much about healing and self-expression as it is about creating compelling, genre-blending soundscapes.

I’m not exactly known for working smart, but I do work hard. I often take the longer route, and that’s usually how I learn. I tend to do things the “hard way” roughly 45,000 times before I can figure out the shortcuts that make the process easier for me.

For those curious about how I deploy a website with new posts, here’s my workflow:

I write the content in Obsidian, complete with pictures and all the formatting.

Then, I copy the content from Obsidian into the
/posts/
folder in Hugo.

Next, I use Hugo to compile a new version of the website with the updated posts.

Finally, I use
rsync
to upload everything to my hosting provider.

Initially, I was uploading files manually through FTP, but that process was too slow and incredibly frustrating. Switching to
rsync
saved me a lot of time and headaches! :D

So, what’s next? I’m thinking I might involve github in some shape or form so I can just make a fork and deploy it from there. But that’s a whole another idea and project.

In today’s digital world, there are countless platforms where you can share your thoughts and ideas. Social media networks like Instagram and Threads are great for quick interactions and capturing fleeting moments, but I’ve always felt they aren’t the best space for sharing deeper insights and things I’ve learned.

In today’s digital world, there are countless platforms where you can share your thoughts and ideas. Social media networks like Instagram and Threads are great for quick interactions and capturing fleeting moments, but I’ve always felt they aren’t the best space for sharing deeper insights and things I’ve learned. That’s why I decided to take a different route: I chose Hugo, a static site generator, to create my own personal blog.

!

With Hugo, I can have full control over my content. There’s no character limit, no fleeting posts that disappear in a scroll, and no distractions from algorithms dictating what I should be posting. It’s the perfect platform for me to reflect on ideas, document lessons, and share useful resources without worrying about fitting everything into a small post or an image.

Hugo is also incredibly fast, lightweight, and offers tons of flexibility in how I design and organize my content. Since it’s a static site generator, the pages load incredibly fast, and I don’t need to rely on heavy server-side processing. This makes it easy to maintain and keeps my site running smoothly, no matter how much I add to it.

I realized that the short-lived nature of social media doesn’t allow for the type of thoughtful reflection and in-depth exploration I want to share. When I find something interesting or insightful, I want to write it down in a way that’s organized and accessible to anyone who might stumble upon it later—not just the people who happen to see it in their feed at the moment.

Ultimately, choosing Hugo means I’m investing in a space where I can take the time to curate my knowledge and experiences, without the pressure of fleeting trends or formats. I’m excited to use this platform to dive deeper into topics I care about and to share things I hope will be helpful for others.
